Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional position responsible for initiating and coordinating tobacco prevention and cessation programs that support 4 goal areas set forth by the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida: (1) preventing initiation among youth and young adults; (2) eliminate secondhand smoke exposure; 3) promote cessation from tobacco use; and 4) maintain an infrastructure that supports a standalone county Tobacco-Free Partnership and SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco). This position requires the ability to work both independently and under the direction of the Community Program Manager, as well as to work with youth, young adults and adults. This person will be communicating with persons outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. Information related to the program may need to be exchanged face-to-face, in writing, or via telephone/electronic transfer. At times this job requires lifting and organizing heavy materials. The person in this position must also have a working knowledge of computers and word processing skills. This position requires travel and some weekend and evening hours. This is a tobacco-free position.

  • Build relationships with community partners to include conducting one-on-one meetings with potential partners and holding Tobacco-Free Partnership Leadership Meetings.
  • Support partners working to inform and educate on benefits of policy change and encouraging policy change adoption.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining SWAT chapters in local schools and work with SWAT youth (middle and high school) to reduce tobacco use, including vaping.
  • Perform research activities of retailers, multi-unit housing facilities, and other locations to determine current activities and policies related to tobacco prevention and cessation.
  • Participate in tobacco control observances or community-based/organizational activities.
  • Participate in organization of special events.
  • Perform administrative duties including maintaining records.
  • Collaborate with provider staff in other counties to exchange ideas and develop ways to work together.
  • Assist to obtain and document the percentage of annual match required for the annual grant funding amount.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of computers and word processing skills. Ability to develop, plan, implement programs. Ability to professionally sense and handle any changes in circumstances or events. Skilled in written and oral communications. Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

Qualifications:

Ability to develop, plan and implement programs. Ability to work with community organizations, members and decision-makers. Ability to initiate and maintain community partnerships. Must be 100% tobacco-free, including electronic vaping devices. Must hold a valid Driver's License. Must be willing to work outside of regular business hours and weekends occasionally.
